Meaning and background
The story behind Pogo
Pogo chiefly evokes the spring-mounted pogo stick used for bouncing, and the related verb for repeated hopping. The term appeared in English in the early twentieth century. A museum account says its name may combine the surnames of early German designers, but the explanation is a belief, not certain documentation of a coinage. For a dog it is a rhythmic two-syllable sound, without implying the animal jumps unusually often.
