Meaning and background
The story behind Rubia
Rubia is the feminine form in the Spanish adjective rubio, associated with a yellowish, gold-like color and blond hair. The RAE explicitly applies the hair description to people or animals. Its separate rubia entry also includes the madder plant and an old coin, so the spelling has more than one dictionary reference. A golden coat can provide a clear naming association while leaving those other meanings distinct.
