Meaning and background
The story behind Russet
Russet is an English colour word for a warm reddish-brown shade, often used of autumn leaves. The sound is close to Russell but the history is different: one is a colour noun and adjective, the other a name descended from a surname. For a dog, Russet is a descriptive choice if the colour association appeals, but it need not describe the coat of the dog bearing it.
