Meaning and background
The story behind Satin
Satin comes from the name of a fabric known for its smooth, glossy surface. The English word arrived through French, although competing ideas have been proposed about its much earlier origin. As a pet name it offers a readily understood textile association and a short two-syllable sound; it does not literally mean “soft-natured”. Like Velvet or Silk, its effect is a modern English word association rather than a traditional given-name etymology.
