Meaning and background
The story behind Sinbad
Sinbad is best known as the adventurous sailor in the story cycle associated with the Thousand and One Nights. The name evokes storytelling, voyages and fantastical dangers rather than an independently established English word meaning. A pet called Sinbad may be named for that figure, but a character association is not enough to justify a speculative translation of the original name.
