Meaning and background
The story behind Slug
Slug most readily brings to mind the soft-bodied mollusc related to snails, often without an external shell. English also uses slug for a heavy blow, a lump of metal and several technical things. Its different senses make one definitive naming motive impossible. As a dog name it has a strikingly blunt single syllable; humour, rather than literal likeness, may be part of its appeal.
