Meaning and background
The story behind Snoopy
Snoopy is firmly established as the name of the beagle in Charles M. Schulz’s Peanuts comic strip. The official Peanuts site records the character’s first appearance in 1950 and his elaborate imagined adventures. Snoopy also resembles the English word snoop, but resemblance does not prove the cartoonist’s original naming process. For dog owners, the already canine literary association is exceptionally clear.
