Meaning and background

The story behind Solaris

Solaris is a Latin adjective meaning “of the sun”, as recorded in historical Latin dictionaries. It is also the title of Stanisław Lem’s 1961 science-fiction novel, which gives the word a separate literary association. Neither reference makes Solaris a verified traditional dog name. The extra ending makes it longer and more flowing than Solar, while the eventual personal reason for using it remains unknown.

Meaning
Latin solaris means “of or belonging to the sun”; Solaris is also the title of a 1961 novel by Stanisław Lem. Source
