Meaning and background
The story behind Spanky
Spanky is an informal nickname most famously associated with George “Spanky” McFarland from the Our Gang or Little Rascals films. The Texas State Historical Association documents that cultural use, while a contemporary court judgment also identifies the nickname in the film series. The word’s connection with “spank” should not be recast as a cheerful moral meaning. It is a recognisable, playful-sounding nickname with a specific historical bearer.
