Meaning and background
The story behind Spruce
Spruce has two useful English associations. Merriam-Webster records a neat or smart appearance and the act of making something tidier; it also identifies Picea evergreen trees and related conifers. A forest-inspired choice and an affectionate reference to a well-groomed dog would therefore tell different stories. Naming the intended sense is clearer than combining the tree and adjective into one personal-name meaning that the dictionary does not establish.
