Meaning and background
The story behind Trudie
Trudie is a familiar form of Gertrude used in English and Dutch naming traditions. Behind the Name gives the diminutive relationship and pronunciations for each language; these are not quite the same. The longer name Gertrude is formed from old Germanic elements for 'spear' and 'strength', but Trudie itself is a short form rather than a separate word for either object.
