Meaning and background
The story behind Tuesday
Tuesday is the English weekday following Monday. Its Old English form, *tīwesdæg*, meant the day of Tiu, a Germanic deity associated with the Roman Mars. That makes it a calendar-word name with a genuine mythological element in its history, not a modern invention meaning 'the second day'. A dog called Tuesday need not have been born on that particular day.
