Meaning and background
The story behind Tyr
Tyr is the anglicised spelling of Týr, the Old Norse name of a god associated with war and justice. One famous Norse story tells of his hand being bitten off by the wolf Fenrir while the gods bind the wolf. The myth makes a particular connection for a dog name, but it is a story about the god, not a trait assigned to an animal. The name also has earlier Germanic relatives.
