Meaning and background
The story behind Una
Una is familiar as an English spelling of Irish Úna or Scottish Ùna. It also has a separate association with Latin *una*, 'one', notably through its appearance in Edmund Spenser's *The Faerie Queene*. These strands are easily muddled: a Latin poetic association does not automatically explain the Gaelic personal names. Said approximately OO-nuh in English, Una is short, traditional and distinct without requiring an invented personality label.
