Meaning and background
The story behind Vale
Vale is an English word for a valley, especially in literary or place-name usage, and is also adopted as a given name. The family name Vale has several different sources, including place-based English or Galician histories and separate Irish forms. There is additionally a Latin farewell *valē*, but a matching spelling does not make that the English valley word's etymology. This distinction prevents several attractive but unrelated meanings from being merged.
