Meaning and background
The story behind Bach
Bach is famously borne by the German composer Johann Sebastian Bach. In German surnames it often describes someone who lived beside a stream; the English surname can have a comparable landscape source. Welsh bach, however, means “small”, and some central European bearers have a different personal-name origin. That makes Bach an appealing short name with several genuine traditions, not one translation for every family.
