Meaning and background
The story behind Bambi
Bambi has two distinct strands of recognition. As an English given name it derives from Italian bambina, meaning “young girl”, and appeared in an American novel published in 1914. The better-known deer connection comes through Felix Salten’s story and its Disney adaptation, in which Bambi is male. That difference is worth preserving: the name’s language history and its fictional association are not the same thing.
