Meaning and background
The story behind Cesare
Cesare is the Italian counterpart of Caesar, not a decorative respelling of the English word. Its initial c is pronounced with a ch sound, and Italian gives the ending a separate vowel, producing a different rhythm from English Caesar. The Roman name itself has several proposed explanations but no securely agreed literal root. That leaves a well-attested language and history for Cesare without the need to call it conqueror or ruler by definition.
