Meaning and background
The story behind Chiller
Chiller has two principal dictionary uses in English: a machine that cools or refrigerates things, and a frightening book or film that gives its audience a thrill. Both are built on the older family of chill words, but they refer to very different experiences. This makes Chiller an ambiguous rather than inherently ominous dog name. The Oxford dictionary also records the ordinary two-syllable pronunciation, but a pet owner's own usage may differ.
