Meaning and background
The story behind Disa
Disa is a Nordic feminine given name, historically used as a familiar form of names containing the Old Norse element dís. Sweden's Institute for Language and Folklore explains this element as referring to a female deity or supernatural female being. Norwegian lexicographic evidence independently confirms the short-name history. It is better to explain that inherited name element than to assert that Disa simply and universally translates as 'goddess'.
