Meaning and background
The story behind Hera
Hera is the name of the Greek goddess associated with marriage and childbirth, and in mythology she is queen of the gods. Those roles are secure cultural context; her name's original word derivation is not. Linguistic proposals have linked it to Greek words for hero or time, but scholarship also favours a pre-Greek origin. An editor should therefore retain the mythological identity while leaving any literal translation open.
