Meaning and background
The story behind Honda
Honda is an established Japanese surname, familiar worldwide through the vehicle manufacturer but considerably older as a family name. The writing 本田 combines characters for origin or source and a rice field; the separate spelling 本多 uses characters with different meanings. The surname is therefore not identical to the Spanish adjective honda, despite its Roman letters. The written characters would be needed to choose an exact translation for an individual family.
