Meaning and background
The story behind Kiri
Kiri is attested as a Māori given name and connects to the Māori word for skin, bark or rind. Japanese also has a separate word kiri written 桐 for the paulownia tree. The identical Roman letters therefore cannot be treated as one universal translation. The singer Kiri Te Kanawa is a well-known Māori-name bearer, while any Japanese plant association depends on the owner's intended language and writing.
