Meaning and background
The story behind Lee
Lee can be an English given name taken from a surname meaning a clearing or a meadow. However, the same romanised spelling represents several unrelated Chinese surnames and the Korean surname Yi, as well as other family-name histories. The Dictionary of American Family Names documents these separate routes. It would be misleading to call them all “meadow”. The spoken English given name is usually simply LEE.
