Meaning and background
The story behind Leeloo
Leeloo is the spelling used for the mysterious heroine of the 1997 science-fiction film The Fifth Element. The French film company Gaumont identifies the character by that exact name in its synopsis. Its unusual repeated vowels and long final sound have made it distinctive as a pop-culture choice, but the film character’s name should not be given a fabricated ancient translation. It is independent of the attested Estonian name Leelo.
