Meaning and background
The story behind Macadamia
Macadamia is the English name of an Australian tree nut. Its history is especially specific: Oxford records that the scientific plant name commemorates John Macadam, a nineteenth-century Australian chemist. It is not an inherited personal name meaning “sweet” or a Gaelic word just because it begins Mac-. Four or five syllables may be long for everyday calling, making a shorter nickname practical.
