Meaning and background
The story behind Magnum
Magnum is a Latin form of *magnus*, “great” or “large”, and entered several English uses, including a large wine bottle. It is therefore not originally a particular commercial product name. Its compact two-syllable shape can make a bold dog name, but “strong” or “large” are word associations, not predictions of size or behaviour. As with Magnus, the documented root is Latin and should be separated from later brand and product references.
