The story behind Pacific
Pacific comes from an English adjective meaning ‘peaceful’ or ‘making peace’, ultimately derived from Latin *pacificus*. It is also embedded in the familiar name of the Pacific Ocean, which gives the word a vast geographical association. That connection is linguistic and historical, not evidence that a dog carrying the name will be calm. The three-syllable spoken form is much longer than Pac, despite their shared opening.
