Meaning and background
The story behind Prue
Prue is the English short form of Prudence, with a single-syllable reference reading ending in a long oo sound. That makes the call much more compact than the written and spoken scale of the longer name. An owner can use Prue in its own right without a formal Prudence behind it. The short form also has a different sound from similarly brief names such as Rue. If a person is the inspiration, preserving that connection is more useful than inventing a separate translation for Prue.
