Meaning and background
The story behind Rust
Rust names the reddish-brown layer that can form when iron or steel reacts with air and moisture; it is also a recognised colour word. That gives Rust an industrial and earthy association rather than a traditional personal-name pedigree. With one short syllable and a final consonant cluster, it is much terser than Rusty or Russet, despite their shared colour vocabulary.
