Meaning and background
The story behind Salmon
Salmon is first an English fish name, also used for a pinkish-orange colour. As a surname, however, it has more than one history: some families descend from medieval forms of Salomon, while others reflect the fish word or different Irish naming routes. Treating every person or dog called Salmon as if named after a fish would lose that distinction. The l is silent in the usual English pronunciation.
