Meaning and background
The story behind Americano
Americano is familiar in British cafés as a coffee made from strong espresso with hot water added. The word has an Italian-looking ending and is also used outside coffee for other drinks, but it does not have to be treated as an Italian personal name. As a dog name it is a deliberately playful food-and-drink reference with five syllables in many English readings. The dictionary supports the coffee sense, not a legendary history behind it.
