Meaning and background
The story behind Web
Web is a short vocabulary name with an old, concrete meaning: the fine network spun by a spider. The English word also describes a network of connected things and the World Wide Web. Those modern and natural associations are visible in the spelling, but none establishes a personal-name origin. With only one syllable, it is markedly shorter than Webb, Webber or Webster.
