Meaning and background
The story behind Wilhemina
Wilhemina is attested in the name of Wilhemina Dixon, the central subject of June Cross’s documentary Wilhemina’s War. Its co-producer ITVS records an Independent Lens premiere in February 2016, and Columbia University describes the film’s South Carolina family and community setting. This provides a real bearer and a particular documentary reference for a dog owner who knows the work. Preserving Wilhemina’s spelling matters here: these records do not authorise silently changing it to Wilhelmina or assigning the longer name’s etymology.
